“If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need”.
How true, I will be forever grateful to my father Keith, for giving me a love of reading, books and learning and my mother, Joan, for demonstrating and teaching me how a passionate love of gardening can make one’s life complete.
Cicero has been traditionally considered the master of Latin prose. He is credited with transforming Latin from a modest utilitarian language into a versatile literary medium capable of expressing abstract and complicated thoughts with clarity.Julius Ceasar praised Cicero’s achievement. Cicero was also an energetic writer with an interest in a wide variety of subjects in keeping with the Hellenistic philosophical and rhetorical traditions in which he was trained. The quality and ready accessibility of Ciceronian texts favoured very wide distribution and inclusion in teaching curricula as suggested by an amusing graffiti at Pompeii admonishing “you will like Cicero, or you will be whipped” .
